Gaming & Lotteries Department The Gaming and Lotteries Division is responsible for the licencing, monitoring and regulation of all lottery, including raffles, bingos and prize promotions and gaming activities which are conducted in Jamaica. These activities are presently being conducted or will be soon, by
various licensees and others as follows:
Administrative Department This Division ensures that the workload of the gambling industry, which has expanded during the nineties, is distributed in the most efficient and effective way and that there is no overlap in the Commission's functions in the enforcement of the gambling laws. It ensures that there are clear leaders of defined Divisions to whom the public
can look for answers
to questions about the Commission or its work.
Betting Department This Division monitors the operations of the sole horseracing promoter in Jamaica and fifteen bookmakers. This monitoring involves the supervision of betting at the Caymanas Park race track in Jamaica, and at the racing promoter's 73 off-track betting parlours, at over 110 racing pools outlets and at 533 bookmakers' betting
offices
Enforcement Department The establishment of an Enforcement Division is a new strategy, which enables the Commission to shift its focus from monitoring only, to also enforcing the gambling laws wherever they apply throughout Jamaica. The Division includes Investigators trained in the detection of corruption in gambling wherever it exists and an Intelligence officer whose duty is to locate, collect, collate and archive information about illegal gambling activities. In addition, two officers of the Jamaica Constabulary
Force have been seconded
to this Division |
